On November 19, 2010 there was a conference in Võru culture centre ‘Kannel’, summarising Geomedia’s project ‘Conducting Surveys of Võru Region’s Local Governments for the Potential Administrative Reform’. The project was the result of cooperation between Võru City, Võru Rural Municipality and Sõmerpalu Rural Municipality. It involved the analysis of the respective population, public services, budgets, staff and representative democracy. A delegate of the European Parliament – Ivari Padar, professor Sulev Mäeltsemees from the Institute of Public Administration of Tallinn University of Technology, and Jüri Võigemast, the director of  the Association of Estonian Cities were speakers of the conference. The chairman of Võru town council Erki Saarman, the major of Võru Rural Municipality Georg Ruuda and the major of Sõmepalu Rural Municipality Aare Hollo addressed the participants of the conference as the representatives of the local governments. Karin-Liis Haljaste and Rivo Noorkõiv from Geomedia made presentations. The conference was followed by a debate, which focused on various aspects of administrative reform and its future prospects.
