On the 13th of November a public discussion took place in Noarootsi, focusing on the local government amalgamation reform. The three and a half hour discussion included a presentation by Geomedia consultant Rivo Noorkõiv, a question and answer session and a group work phase. The objective was to get more information about the planned reform and form an opinion on administrative arrangements. The municipality council of Noarootsi is in charge of answering to the proposal of Lääne-Nigula council to form a local government unit consisting of Lääne-Nigula, Noarootsi, Nõva, Martna and Kullamaa municipalities. During the public debate, pro and contra arguments were collected, local fears linked with amalgamation analyzed, as well as possible decision-making strategies and their impact on the municipality’s future discussed.
