Municipality amalgamation discussion in Valgamaa

In the county of Valgamaa amalgamation negotiations have started between the three rural municipalities of Helme, Hummuli, Põdrala and the urban municipality of Tõrva. With this decision, the four municipalities move in the direction of creating an amalgamated municipality based on the Mulgi regional identity. The historical basement of Helme kihelkond offers good conditions for this. As of 01.01.2015, the four municipalities have 6541 inhabitants. Out of them, there are approx. 2600 tax payers accounting for an operating revenue volume of approx. 6.7 million euros in 2014. The amalgamation is planned to be carried in the course of the 2017 local council elections. A detailed plan for the amalgamation negotiations was discussed with representatives of the different parties (stakeholder representatives) in Helme community center on the 5th of August 2015.
